The Holy Spirit: Imagine The Possibilities

The young man nervously glanced at the crowd of people that filled the pews. He knew in his heart he was making the right decision but the significance of the moment began to weigh on him. The reassuring smile of the elder steadied him as he began to wade into the water. “Do you believe Jesus is the son of God?” The elder asked. “I do,” The young man confidently replied. “I now baptized you in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit,” the elder proclaimed as he submerged the young man into the baptismal pool. Rising out of the water he could hear the applause from his new Christian family. The angels were also rejoicing for the newest member of the chosen, of those separated by God to be a royal priesthood.

Yes priesthood? I know it’s a lot but Christian are called to be God’s representative to the world. It’s a big challenge to go from being worldly to preaching to it. Let’s be honest, we don’t just stop doing many of the things we did before we were saved. If we were cussing before we were baptized on Sunday, we’ll be cussing at work on Monday. So how are we going to transform ourselves to being as Christ-like as possible? The answer has nothing to do with you and everything to do with God. He already knew we couldn’t save ourselves so he sent Jesus and he knows we’re too spiritually weak to overcome our flesh so he sent the Holy Spirit.

The Holy Spirit is the least understood of the Holy Trinity (God the Father, God the Son and God the Spirit) yet he’s the one the Father left with us to ensure our salvation. After Jesus’ ascension to heaven the Holy Spirit was sent to give us the guidance, the knowledge, and the strength to do God’s will. He also prays on our behalf and is a guarantee of Jesus’ return and I’ll discuss that in an upcoming post. Today, I want to hone in on how the Spirit helps you transform into a spiritual titan.

We all know it can be a struggle to stop giving into our own desires and that’s where the Holy Spirit comes in. The transformation begins once you’re baptized which is when you’re given the gift of the Spirit (Acts2:38). It’s a process that takes time but the Spirit will lessen your desire to lie, cheat and cuss. He’ll give you the strength to end any addiction, quell any sexual lusts including homosexual, and give you the ability to love those who don’t show love to you. He’ll also calm and steady you when you’re going through hard times and give you discernment so you can make better decisions. Lastly, the Spirit will help you see things spiritually. When a door closes you’ll no longer see it as rejection. You’ll see it as God’s guidance.

It may all sound impossible to people who are worldly but the Spirit does so many amazing things for you. You have to remember the Holy Spirit is God. I repeat, the Holy Spirit is God! He’s literally living inside your body along with your spirit. All the things that seem so hard to stop doing like sleeping around and being materialistic you can do because God (the Spirit) is giving you the power. Although the Spirit is all powerful and can mold you into the best possible version of yourself, he will not force himself on you. He will not grow stronger within you if you don’t let him. You have to do your part by consistently reading the Bible, attending worship services and praying. Then you’ll be on the path to real and meaningful changes in your life. You and the Holy Spirit… can you imagine the possibilities?

Think about it.
