How Do You See Sex?

Why is having sex while we’re single wrong? Our bodies were designed for sex and if two consenting adults want to enjoy its pleasures, then why not? The problem with this way of thinking is that God forbids sex outside of marriage. Sadly, most people don't see that as a hindrance, especially our young adults. Their mindset is to live the way they want now and they’ll worry about all the Bible stuff when they get older. But before anyone decides to run wild and free, they need to consider the following: God's laws have real world benefits and the choice not to follow has real world consequences.

Sex is designed to bond a couple (male and female) together. Imagine if you were a virgin on your wedding day. The closeness of experiencing sex for the first time with the love of your life would be amazing! Y’all would learn and grow sexually together and  you’d share one of the strongest bonds a person can have with one another. The sexual passions of our youth causes us to lose out on those blessings. Whether you realize it or not, every time you sleep with someone you create a bond. That bond makes it harder for you to break up with the person who isn't right for you. The sexual connection clouds your judgement so you overlook or ignore warning signs.

Sex the way God intended strengthens a marriage but being sexually active before you get married could create problems in the marriage itself. People may start comparing their spouse with their past sex partners or even worse, think about past partners if the sex isn’t as good or if there are marital issues. The old saying, “you won’t miss what you never had,” certainly applies. Breaking God’s laws can also lead to other unexpected consequences like a disease that’ll stay with you for the rest of your life or end it. At the very least a venereal diseases can complicate any future relationship.

Abstaining from sex before marriage also means you don't have to worry about unwanted pregnancies. Think about all of the baby momma/daddy problems and financial hardships people endure because they had a child outside of wedlock. Sex is a powerful urge and plays a far more prominent role in a relationship than people realize. You disagree? Try telling your boy/girlfriend you’re no longer having sex until you’re married and see how well that conversation goes.

I’m not trying to stand on my soap box and act like it’s easy. I know it sounds impossible to wait until you’re married. Thankfully, if we give our lives to Christ, He’ll shift our focus off our lust and onto Him. Even something as powerful as our sex drive can be controlled but only through God. We often forget that God created everything and He knows how everything is meant to work. Our bodies weren’t created to to satisfy our sexual lusts. Don’t you know God's temple is Holy? Don’t you know you’re that temple (1 Cor 3:17)?

Think about it.
