Fact or Fiction
Last week I gave an impromptu questionnaire to help gauge your faith walk. I got a lot of positive feedback so I thought it would be a good idea to drop a little pop quiz. Don’t worry, this isn’t as bad as the quizzes you got when you walked into the classroom and the teacher would have a sly grin on his/her face. This is just a little quiz to help see where you stand on some of the Bible basics all Christians need to learn.
Fact or Fiction
- The gospel is that Jesus became human, died for our sins, was raised from the dead and if you follow him you will have eternal life.
- We follow all the laws the Jews were commanded to follow in the Old Testament.
- The Holy Trinity is God the Father, God the Son, and Mary the mother of Jesus.
- The apostles were given all the knowledge we need to worship and live correctly.
- There are a total of 4 books in the New Testament that make up the gospels.
- Baptism is needed for the remission of our sins.
- God allows us to worship Him however we choose as long as it’s on Sunday.
Number one is true, numbers 2 and 3 are false, numbers 4 through 6 are true and number 7 is false. So how did you do? If you answered all of them correctly, you’re off to a great start. If you missed more than two, you may need a few more Bible study classes. This quiz may not seem that important but hopefully it motivates you to study the Bible whether you aced it or not. Every Christian should at least know what laws to follow and how to be saved. Our lack of Bible knowledge is a big reason why so many Christians are timid when it comes to sharing the gospel and why so many people follow false teachings.
Can you be saved just by saying a prayer? Are women allowed to preach to men during worship service? These are just a few important questions that a lot of Christians are unsure of how to answer. We’re called to share the gospel and help people get saved but how can we do that if we don’t know what is required? Jesus warns us that you can worship him in vain if you follow traditions and not his commands (Matt 15:9). That means God does not value your worship if your worship isn't according to his will (see the story of Cain and Able). Maybe it’s just me, but I think it’s a pretty good idea to know what God wants when we worship Him. It’s imperative that you read and study the Bible to increase your Bible knowledge. You can't afford not to know if the things you believe are fact or fiction.
Think about it.
