Membership

Standing in the foyer you can’t help but make sure the reflection in the mirror hasn’t changed in the five seconds since you last gazed into it. “Looking good,” You say to yourself as your best friend’s horn beeps again. Zooming out of the driveway you barely have enough time to buckle up but you don’t mind because you’ve been waiting for this. Your favorite singer is having an intimate concert at the posh new venue downtown. Upon arriving a well appointed valet greets you in front of the red carpet nestled between golden poles. Even more impressive is the immaculate entry point lined on both sides with polished granite columns. The sound of music can be heard as you walk along the marble crossway that separates the two softly lit koi ponds. Unfortunately, the music quickly fades as all you can hear is the doorman in the European cut suit say you can’t come in.

You procured a ticket but not a seat. The concert is for members only. Disappointed but always the good friend, you tell your best friend to go enjoy themselves. You’ve learned the hard way that membership has its privileges and that’s never more true than when you become a part of the most prestigious club in the world- Christianity. “For the gate is narrow and the way is hard that leads to life, and those who find it are few,” (‭‭Matt 7‬:‭14‬). Take a minute to let that sink in. Your membership, which few will obtain, gives you exclusive access to the most incredible perk of all– eternal life! But wait, there’s more. Not only do you get a golden ticket to the afterlife you also get to live it up while you’re here.

Jesus said he came to give us a more abundant life (John 10:10). Hold on before you start “naming and claiming it.” Abundant life doesn’t necessarily mean you’re going to be rich and successful. Besides, if you’re blessed financially, that blessing isn’t just for you. It’s also for you to bless someone else. Now back to the primary definition of abundant life which means a life that’s full of joy and strength of spirit. Make no mistake about it, God promised to provide all of your needs plus you get the added perk of God’s strength to keep you going when you’re tired of being tired.

Another perk of being a Christian is in knowing God hears your prayers. That’s a shouting moment folks. God doesn’t listen to the prayers of the unrighteousness (Jon 9:31). Do you realize that sinners are living off of His grace and the prayers of Christians? Before you were baptized into Christ you prayed but those prayers went unheard. Many of the blessing you received were because mom or grandma prayed for you. Membership also means you get the armor of a superhero to fight against the evils of this world (see the postings about the armor of God). We know that nothing can separate us from God’s love and if God is for us– say it with me, “Who can be against us?” For you’re chosen, called out, justified, and glorified (Rom 8:30-31).

If you don’t feel special after reading that, I don’t know what else to say. Actually, I do want to add a few more words. You’re glorified for someday you’ll share in Jesus’ glory since you’re justified by Jesus’ sacrifice for your sins. Also, you’re called out by God for a purpose. Regardless of your social status, net worth or the trials you face, your life has meaning. We’re the light of the world and wherever you go or whatever you do, let your light shine so God gets the glory! Just think about all the benefits Christianity offers and how it felt to be left outside while your best friend was dancing to the beat. I hope it motivates you to help someone before it’s too late as there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

Think about it.
